Let’s talk about Layering Perfumes

Every day you go out into the world you choose how to give people an impression of who you are from how you dress, speak and carry yourself. Perfume is a distinctive Fashion Accessory. In fact, it’s part of your branding.

You layer your clothing when it’s cold. You layer your jewellery when it’s hot to maintain your Fashionista Vibe. But your scent counts in every weather and situation.

What is Layering?

There are different ways of layering perfume. Some people use assorted products in the same perfume line, but to smell unique you need variety. Time to mix it up.

Layering can mean using one perfume over another which creates a different scent or even placing different perfumes on various parts of your body. This second way maintains the original of each perfume and overall creates a unique scent too.

Deciding What to Layer?

Here’s a few tips if you’re just starting out. You can layer over complex perfumes or mix some single scents together. Some people prefer to start with a single scent they love and take it from there.

If layering with a complex perfume you may wish to accentuate one of the scents that is already in it. Consider what you’ll be doing and think …. do you prefer to play up the fresh, the upbeat, flowery, sweet, deep, spicy or sensual scents? What is your mood? What would you like it to be?

Where are you going…work or play? Who will be there? Are you going to a business or work presentation? going out with the girls, to an artsy outdoor café or classy restaurant? Or … are you all set for a romantic cuddle-up in front of a fireplace with sensual music playing? Meet the mood.

Experiment with Perfumes Gradually or Dive in!

It is harder to layer two complex perfumes [but it is done, especially by perfumiers]. Deep heady perfumes usually benefit from a top notes that brightens them up rather than another deep scent [again but it can be done]. It’s intriguing how scents so opposite can layer beautifully. Take for example a refreshing peppermint with a deep rich lavender. Layered over each other, they create a new scent. Layered near each other but on other parts of your body, each perfume retains it’s scent, but others will smell both perfumes somehow coming together, but with each scent being distinctive.

Layering Expands your Perfume Wardrobe

One of the benefits of carrying around our 10 ml roll-on perfumes is that you can layer up later in the day to create a unique perfume for evening. If one of your fave scents has a top note scent you love, you’ll notice it typically fades more quickly than the other deeper base scents. So bringing along a top note can freshen up your perfume and bringing a deeper scent may fit a romantic evening.

Layering single scents, for example a floral and a citrus like Ylang-Ylang and Grapefruit, both sweet, both gorgeous, but hugely different can smell alluring. Be sure when layering essential oils you use it properly diluted. All perfumes are chemicals and must be treated with care and respect. Some essential oils and some synthetics are not good for people generally and for those who are young, vulnerable or have specific health considerations.

All our roll-on essential perfumes are essential oils, absolutes or extracts mixed with a carrier oil, so they are ready to use. We do not use synthetics or alcohol in our perfumes.
